Where do you stand in Historic Saratoga Village at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, November 27? Candy Cane Village has just wrapped up at the Chamber. The tree in Blaney Plaza won't light for another 15 minutes. Check-in for the Holiday Wine Experience has opened, but the pouring doesn't start until 6.
Three different hosts put this evening together. The City of Saratoga runs the tree lighting, the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce runs the wine stroll, and Candy Cane Village sits at the Chamber's front door. Each event ends close to when the next begins. The short gaps between them are what make the evening flow, and this year more Village spots are open during those gaps than there were last holiday season.
Saturday's dry run on Big Basin Way
The season actually starts this Saturday, October 31. The Saratoga Village Development Council's free Witchy Walk-A-Bout runs from 2 to 4 p.m. along Big Basin Way. Kids can trick-or-treat at Village businesses and show off their costumes, and there are festive scarecrows, games and crafts. The Saratoga High Robotics Team is giving demonstrations, and the lineup also includes a giant bubble booth and the No Direction Ukulele Band, according to the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce.
It's worth going for its own sake, and it's also a preview of November 27. It uses the same few blocks and the same storefronts, at a smaller scale and in daylight. If you have young kids, walking the Village on Halloween afternoon is a good way to learn the layout before the busier, darker evening four weeks later.
The relay, step by step
The city and the Chamber publish their pieces of November 27 on separate pages. Put together, the evening looks like this:
- 3:00 p.m. Candy Cane Village opens at the Saratoga Chamber, 14460 Big Basin Way. It's free and includes photos with Santa and his elves, horse-carriage rides, holiday crafts tables for kids and live sing-along music. The city's event listing bills it as the lead-in to the tree lighting.
- 5:00 p.m. Candy Cane Village ends. At the same address, check-in opens for the Holiday Wine Experience.
- 5:30 p.m. The Holiday Tree Lighting starts in Blaney Plaza. The city calls it the main event and encourages people to "come early and stay late" and enjoy the downtown shops and restaurants.
- 6:00 p.m. The Holiday Wine Experience opens across the Historic Village, with live music by Kurt & Johnny.
- 7:30 p.m. The Chamber stops selling day-of tickets at its door.
- 9:00 p.m. The wine stroll ends.
The Chamber's 14460 Big Basin Way storefront is the center of the whole evening. Families come there for Santa in the afternoon, then the same door turns into the wine stroll's check-in desk at 5. If you're doing both, you can leave the kids' event and get your wristband in the same spot.
Where the gaps fall
There are two gaps worth planning around.
From 5:00 to 5:30. Families who leave Candy Cane Village at 5 have half an hour before the tree lights. Blaney Plaza is a short walk from the Chamber, so you'll likely spend most of that time waiting rather than walking. One small detail makes the plaza a nicer place to wait this year. The plaza's public piano has been replaced. The Mercury News reported that a third piano was brought in on June 24 after an earlier replacement turned out to be in poor condition, according to Saratoga Village Development Council member Jill Hunter.
From 6:00 to 7:30. The tree lights at 5:30, and the wine stroll starts at 6, so the two crowds share the Village at the same time. If you're deciding at the plaza whether to stay, the Chamber's door sells tickets until 7:30. That gives you about an hour and a half to make up your mind.
The ticket math depends on when you decide. The Chamber lists the Holiday Wine Experience at $50 in advance and $60 at the door, plus processing fees and tax. A group of eight costs $375, which works out to less than $47 each. Everyone needs a valid photo ID at check-in, and you'll get a wristband, a wine glass and a brochure listing the tasting locations. The full list of wineries and merchants is in that brochure. The Chamber hasn't published it ahead of time. The Eventbrite ticket page says parking is free throughout the Historic Village.
The rooms that fill the gaps this year
The city's "come early and stay late" advice works best if you know which doors are open between events. Several Village spots changed in 2026, and some of them weren't operating last November.
Scarlett Cocktail Room & Lounge, 20490 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road, opened May 22 next to Bell Tower Café. That makes November 27 its first holiday season. The Mercury News reported that Silvia Petrova and her family, longtime Saratoga residents, bought Bell Tower Café and turned the building next door into a Prohibition-style lounge. The building used to house Claudine's Wine Experience. Petrova told the paper the centerpiece is "a 100-plus-year-old Irish back bar imported from Dublin." Scarlett hosts live music on Fridays and Saturdays, and November 27 is a Friday. The lineup is posted at scarlettroom.com.
The Bank Lounge & Wine Bar is in the same spot in its 1913 brick building, but it has been refreshed. The same Mercury News report describes a small fireplace, upgraded seating and big-screen TVs above the bar. The Bank also stopped being cash-only, so you don't need an ATM before stopping in on a busy night.
Pop Haus took over the former Cinnabar Winery tasting room. The Chamber directory lists it at 14612 Big Basin Way, Suite A. It serves specialty coffee, including an orange marzipan latte and an ube matcha latte, with toasts and pastries. In the afternoons it switches to a wine bar pouring Georgian wines, per the Mercury News. A warm coffee for the 5-to-5:30 wait and a glass of Georgian wine later in the evening could come from the same counter.
Bella Saratoga is unchanged. The paper says it isn't changing hands despite rumors, and owner Clyde Zaya has run it with partner Claudio Nicosia since 2007. Zaya described the Village to the Mercury News this way:
"The town is definitely becoming more lively. Things are definitely getting better since the pandemic. You're seeing more businesses coming in, which is good. The more, the merrier."
Hours for Scarlett and Pop Haus on a holiday Friday aren't posted ahead of time, so call or check their websites before you build your evening around either one.
What's closed that day
The holiday that sets up this evening also closes some places. The Saratoga Library at 13650 Saratoga Avenue is closed all day on Thanksgiving, November 26, and on Friday, November 27. That rules out a quiet library stop before Candy Cane Village.
If November 27 doesn't work for you
The Village relay is only one evening. Montalvo Arts Center has its own holiday events up the hill the week before:
| Date | Montalvo event |
|---|---|
| Sunday, Nov. 15 | Youth holiday gift-making and wreath-making workshops |
| Friday–Saturday, Nov. 20–21 | Yuletide Boutique, free |
| Sunday, Nov. 22 | Yuletide Tea |
The full lineup is on Montalvo's calendar. If you want something quieter after the long weekend, Hakone Gardens has a public tea-ceremony demonstration on Sunday, December 6. Tickets are sold separately from garden admission.
All of these come from live event pages that hosts sometimes update, so check the city and Chamber listings the week of the event.
We live and work in this community too, and evenings like November 27 are a big part of why we love these neighborhoods. If the holidays have you wondering what your Saratoga home is worth before the new year, our family at Mark Chiavetta would be glad to help. Request your home valuation, and we'll give you a clear picture over coffee.
